We are excited to offer several opportunities to our PAL (Published and Listed) members who attend the conference.
New Conference Retreat Track!
Friday, September 13–Sunday, September 15
Do you love the camaraderie and inspiration of conference-going but find yourself longing for more time to simply create? Or maybe you love learning at conferences but feel you need more time to put what you’ve learned over the years to use? Our new retreat track offers authors and illustrators the chance to participate in certain conference activities while freeing up the time during breakout sessions to work on your craft. If this sounds like you, check out the new Midsouth conference retreat track.
SCBWI Authors Display
Displayed throughout the conference
SCBWI members from any region who are attending the Midsouth conference may bring up to three books (written or illustrated for children) and business cards/promotional material for display throughout the conference. Book setup will take place from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14th; book pickup will take place at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 15th. SCBWI cannot be held responsible for damaged materials or books not picked up at that time. Books not picked up will be donated to the Midsouth Book Drive.
Midsouth Cocktail and Autograph Party
5:00–6:30 p.m. Saturday
Please read carefully, as the process for participating as a signer has changed this year. This year qualified attendees will select this option when registering for the conference. These slots fill quickly, so register early if you’d like to be a part of the Cocktail and Autograph Party signing.
Sign copies of your PAL-approved books and meet and greet other Midsouth conference attendees. New this year—preference will be given to authors who have published a new title since the last SCBWI Midsouth conference (between September 15, 2018 and September 17, 2019). A waiting list of authors without new titles will be compiled, and we will fill remaining signing spots on a first-come basis after July 8th. Participation in this event is limited to the first 16 author or illustrator PAL-level SCBWI members (from any region) to complete online registration, pay registration fees, and submit up to five titles with valid ISBN numbers by July 8th. Titles for signing must be published as children’s or young adult literature, be returnable, have no minimum order requirements, and be readily available from Ingram according to Parnassus Books’ sales terms. Exceptions may be made if the book is already stocked by Parnassus Books. (Authors and illustrators should determine the publication date and availability of their titles before deciding to participate.) Send an email with contact info (please indicate whether you are an author, illustrator, or both) along with titles, ISBN numbers, and any questions to Jessica Young at firstname.lastname@example.org. Titles from the autograph party will also be made available for purchase in the conference bookstore throughout the weekend, as supplies last.
