The Midsouth SCBWI Equity & Inclusion initiative is dedicated to promoting, encouraging, and uplifting under-represented voices in the children’s book industry, including but not limited to, those who identify as Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, religious minorities and those with disabilities. The E&I team we are building is enthusiastic about cultivating a caring and supportive environment that enables all SCBWI members to thrive in their art.
All E&I Team members are volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a member of this vibrant team, please email: email@example.com and write EQUITY & INCLUSION in the subject line.
Equity and Inclusion Scholarship for the SCBWI Winter Conference 2021 (link to application form)
Now more than ever, the nurturing and development of “Story” is important and necessary. We need stories that inspire, uplift, encourage, educate, and make us laugh. With “story,” every word, every image, comes together to share who we are and what we have seen. The words in story teach us to see through eyes which are not our own and walk in shoes we have never worn. Midsouth SCBWI’s goal is to help our members along the path to their story, including learning and polishing craft, building and growing through community, sharing and submitting our work with publishing, and, eventually, launching it into the world. But there are so many voices out there that we are still not hearing; so many communities whose stories have yet to be brought to light. We hope this E&I scholarship can help with your creative growth and bring your stories to light.
Application deadline is February 7th, 2021 – you will be notified by February 14th, 2021
For purposes of this scholarship, the word “under-represented” refers to those who identify as Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, religious minorities and those with disabilities. There is no application fee.
